Hailed as the Matisse of the East by Tatler (Singapore) magazine, Tan Choh Tee is a renowned Singaporean artist recognised for his impressionist-style landscape paintings. Born in 1942, Tan has exhibited in Singapore, Taiwan, Indonesia, Thailand, Japan, Hong Kong, Shanghai, London, Germany, and Paris. He was awarded the Special Award for National Day Art Exhibition by the then Ministry of Culture, Singapore, in 1976, the Creative Visual Art Award by the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, Singapore, in 2005, the Asia Visual Arts Award by the Korean National Cultural Research Organisation, South Korea, in 2006, as well as the Cultural Medallion by the National Arts Council of Singapore in 2006. Tan’s works are collected by the National Heritage Board of Singapore, the National Gallery Singapore, the National Museum of Singapore, the Monetary Authority of Singapore, Central Provident Fund of Singapore, United Overseas Bank, Development Bank of Singapore, IBM International Corporation, and other important organisations along with private collectors.
